Midrand - Corporate reception revamp

The brief was to modernise and transform the entrance to the home of a 130-year-old pharmaceutical company. This forward-thinking management team wanted its ethos and values to be reflected in the newly designed face of their company. Smart, timeless and inviting was the objective.

In response to this large construction company outgrowing their premises, that we had completed three years previously, we had to go back to the drawing board and integrate the existing 750m2 into the new 3000m2 in 6 weeks.

We started with a site zoned agricultural with chemical contamination and ended two years later with 10 000 sqm of warehousing and 2 000 sqm of offices. This 22-hectare piece of land in Booysens was perfectly positioned 8 minutes from Sandton and 2 minutes from a major arterial. Zoned agricultural and bordering a residential area the brief was to ensure the final design resonated with the surrounding area.

Optometrists Rooms Johannesburg

Our brief was to create a talking point – a hugely desirable destination store that people relished being in. Not only is this designer store beautiful, it is also unconventional and memorable. It is set in a conveniently situated office park surrounded by lush green gardens.

We were delighted to have participated in the design of the new media centre at Kingsmead junior school. The brief was to reuse and modernise all existing furniture and to create a space that took the teaching space from a traditional environment into a forward-thinking, active learning space that would prepare the students for life as global, critical thinking citizens.

The brief was to create a professional and sophisticated environment for this large multinational corporation and to set up its new head office for Africa in Sandton. They were new to South Africa and emphatic that we portrayed their brand and image correctly.

Corporate Coffee Shop

The brief was to create a space that staff could both relax, work quietly or hold informal meetings in over a cup of coffee. The concept was for there to be a comfortable old-world feel with different types of seating areas that catered to various types of informal work options.

We were asked to transform an old fashioned, dull science lab into a room that evoked a passion for the subject and encouraged learners to engage with their environment. Maximum impact was achieved through the use of wallpaper on the walls and ceiling that were subject-specific, fantastical and colourful.

St Stithians approached us to reinvent three small hub rooms that existed between 3 pairs of classrooms. These were dead spaces that they wanted to use to challenge the conventional idea of classroom design. Their main request was to use a rainbow theme and turn these into active learning spaces that catered for future teaching methodologies.

We were called in to the Saints Stithian’s boys Prep and asked to help with the refurbishment of their two IT classrooms. They were outdated and by no means indicative of current times and thinking.

Kingsmead Learning Centre

We were approached by Kingsmead College with regards their learning centre revamp to motivate a new approach to teaching and education. This has been an innovative way to deal with an academic space by creating an environment that makes the girls feel more energized and inspired.
