This was an old Houghton home that needed attention – while the ‘old bones’ of those period homes are fantastic the internals were restricted with regards flow and light. The main objective was to keep the integrity of the old home but also to modernize the spaces and create an environment suited to the modern family.
The architect achieved the objectives set out by the client and it was our task to compliment her vision by creating an environment that was sophisticated yet relaxed, serious yet frivolous and classic yet contemporary.
The home is set out on various levels and it was important to create a sense of connection between all these areas. We achieved this through a continuity of style, beautiful art and creating pockets of interest that are similar yet different.
Some of the furniture selected encompasses a more contemporary look which is juxtaposed with a collection of beautiful antique furniture. We have used beautiful and sophisticated fabrics and timeless, elegant and simple designs for furniture – The eclectic collection of art and artefacts have been acquired by the owner over years and are her signature that defines her sense of style and personality. This is what encourages a space to be a home and not just a house.
We have loved working on this project and witnessing the transformation over time. This is a home to be proud of, lived in and also gives the family a sense of belonging and peace.
